My friends always want to go to dives or pubs after work, but I have a secret… I’d rather get drunk on food than on brews. So when I discovered BRU HAUS, I was really stoked because they serve a lot of interesting craft brews for my drunkard coworkers, but they also have excellent food for fatties like me.
Traditional Sausages – $6.5
Take your pick from Bockwurst, Creole Turkey, Paesano Spicy Italian, Vegan Mexican Chipotle or Vegan Smoked Apple Sage. I tried a few samples at the BRU HAUS Grand Opening Party, and they were all delish. I absolutely love the pretzel bun they make. It probably has a giant stick of butter Paula-Deen-style in each bite, but I’m not one to complain.
If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, perhaps you can try the Duck & Foie Gras sausage, or Tequila Habanero Chicken, Alligator & Pork, Duck & Bacon or American Knockwurst. The Duck & Bacon was one of my favorites. But I’ll let you in on another little secret – the American Knockwurst is amazing (I know, I know – but I am German so I feel like I can say this with a little bit of integrity. It’s really good.).
The best part of the whole experience is trying all of the different dipping sauces, from Beetchup (BRU HAUS’s alternative to ketchup – ketchup made from beets), Sweet Sambal Aioli, Jalapeno Ranch, a wide variety of mustards, etc.
Pomme Frites – $5 / Sweet Potater Tots – $6
Mmm, the fries and sweet potato tater tots were superb. Definitely a great app to share with a group of friends after a long day at the office.
Giant Bavarian Pretzel – $9
Dang, I ate this thing so fast I didn’t have time to take a picture. But this is one of the best pretzels I’ve ever had and the homemade cheese sauce on the side is TO DIE FOR. Order it.
Craft Brews on Tap – $6-11
I’m no beer connoisseur, however, the selection is so large here, you’re bound to find something you like.
Besides the excellent food and large beer selection, the overall ambience of the BRU HAUS space is nice. Definitely a great spot to watch a game or wind down after work.
